Team ministries are the very heart of the energy that is Unity in Chicago. They allow us to come together in small groups to know each other better, and to support each other on our spiritual paths. They also allowus to contribute our time and unique talents to serve the needs and facilitate the growth of our spiritual community.

Blacks in Unity’s mission is to generate and sustain inclusion of the enthusiasm of the Black experience within Unity in Chicago. Blacks in Unity’s focus will be to promote our history, our traditions, and our culture in line with the church’s spirit of “life light, love, and laughter.” We welcome all members who seek to inspire and support diversity and self-awareness in Unity in Chicago and the extended community.

Compassionate Connections mission is to create opportunities for us to act together, as a community, and sometimes in concert with other faith communities, to create positive change in the world, to move society forward. We are motivated to do this because:

• Engagement in the world is a more hopeful way to live.
• Activism is the opposite of cynicism.
• Participation liberates us from isolation and self involvement.

When we band together in action, we create an alternative to hopelessness and often tap creative parts of ourselves that can open us up, personally and as a group, to fresh possibilities. Creating a menu of options for activism helps Unity members explore together, concepts of personal power, responsibility, abundance, stewardship, simplicity and inter-connectedness.

Garden Ministry maintain and beautify our three acres of sacred space. Meeting weekly, this team works outdoors, weeding, planting, and sustaining our grounds. They are also responsible for outdoor repairs and creating our garden home.

We are a gay and lesbian spiritual group that welcomes and embraces people of all backgrounds and sexual orientations, including bisexual and transgendered persons. We comse together for spiritual and personal learning, social activities, and outreach in the church and larger community in the spirit of giving. Recognizing that we are a composite of diverse strengths and talents, we strive to create a safe place and a sense of family and community.

Higher Ground Vocal Group is a choir that presents challenging multi-part arrangements from a variety of musical genres. This audition-only group meets weekly to rehearse for Sunday services, concerts and special events.

Pet Ministry honors our rich and mutually rewarding relationship with animals. They provide ongoing pet adoption and emergency care services, and they coordinate our annual Pet Blessing Sunday.

Ushers are responsible for welcoming all members and guests to our weekly services and special events. They represent the Unity in Chicago community as they answer questions, facilitate seating, and distribute bulletins.

Youth Ministry is a creating a safe, loving, empowering environment in which children may learn, apply and celebrate Unity principles.
